Byron Bay has been chosen for the NSW Regional Launch of new boutique wine label Outram Estate.

vinesOutram (pronounced 'oo-tram') Estate vineyard was established in 1996 by owner-vigneron Dr Geoff Cutter.

Situated in the beautiful Fordwich Valley (in the Broke-Fordwich designated growing area of the Lower Hunter) the vineyard comprises 48 acres of which two thirds is rich red volcanic basalt running down to sandy grey alluvial soil on the Wollombi Creek front. The former is ideally suited to high quality red grape production and 12 acres of Merlot were planted in '96. The grey soil produces superlative Verdelho.

The Brokenback Range forms a distinctive backdrop to the vineyard and it's silhouette has been incorporated in our label and logo design.

With just 500 cases of Verdelho and 128 cases of Merlot for 2000, we are assuredly VERY 'boutique'! The label was first lauched at the NSW Boutique Wine Show earlier this year and both were met with critical acclaim - the Verdelho being described by a well known Hunter winemaker as being ' the best Verdelho to come out of the Hunter in several years'. The general public was just as enthusiastic.

Our Fordwich Verdelho 2000 was awarded a Silver Medal at this years Cowra Show and Bronze Medal at the Australian Boutique Wine Show.
